Watchling ("we", "our", "the app") is a family video curation tool that lets parents build a safe, ad-free video experience for their children. We take privacy seriously — especially when it comes to kids.
Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Watchling is designed to be used by parents to curate content for their children. The kids' interface does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information from children. Specifically:
- No account creation is required or possible for children
- No personal information is collected from children
- No cookies or tracking pixels are used in the kids' interface
- No third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs are included
- Watch history and favorites are stored locally on the device only, using browser localStorage
Information We Collect
When a parent creates an account, we collect:
- Email address — used for authentication only
- Name — used for display in the dashboard
- Password — stored as a salted, hashed value (PBKDF2-SHA512); we never store or can access your plaintext password
We do not collect payment information, location data, device identifiers, or any other personal information.
How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate you and maintain your session
- To display your curated video library to your children via a private share link
We do not sell, rent, or share your information with any third parties. We do not send marketing emails. We do not use your data for advertising.
Data Storage & Security
- All data is stored in an encrypted database
- All connections use HTTPS encryption
- Sessions expire after 30 days of inactivity
- Passwords are hashed with PBKDF2-SHA512 (10,000 iterations)
Third-Party Services
Watchling embeds YouTube videos using YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which limits YouTube's ability to track viewing activity. We do not control YouTube's data practices; please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details.
No other third-party services, SDKs, or analytics tools are used.
Data Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the Settings tab in your dashboard. This permanently and immediately deletes all your data, including your account, videos, categories, and sessions. This action cannot be undone.
Parental Gate
Parents may set a numeric PIN to prevent children from accessing the parent dashboard. This PIN is hashed and stored securely. It is used solely as an access gate and is not transmitted to any third party.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
